1 Kings 19:9-21:

  • Grace manifests itself in a variety of ways. How have you tangibly seen God at work in your life?
  • In what ways have you heard God’s voice? How does He speak to you?
  • What is God doing in your life right now? Where is He at work?

Luke 9:51-62:

  • This Gospel reading starkly reminds us that there is always a cost to discipleship. Having faith and living our faith is not easy.
  • What has your faith costed you? How has it been hard to live your faith throughout your life
  • What are things out there that have perhaps tempted you, or sought your attention, leading you away from faith?

“For it is not the being called so, but the really being so, that renders one blessed. May I not be merely called a Christian but in reality found to be one.”

St Ignatius of Antioch, prior to being executed by the Romans, circa 90 AD.

“Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man must knock. Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Lutheran Pastor executed by the Nazis, 1944.
